Fall 2007 Watershed Networking Session -
Financial Tools for Watershed Management
The Fall 2007 Indiana Department of Environmental Management’s Office of Water Quality / Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (IASWCD)-sponsored Watershed Networking Meetings were a huge success. Over 90 watershed management professionals, coordinators, and District Staff were involved in the three regional sessions held across the state, which focused on fundraising techniques for watershed management efforts.
Thank You to the Session Speakers
Monica Wehrle and Harriet Meyers, Harmony Associates, Inc.
Jim Williams, Donor Relations Manager, Noble of Indiana
Gus Nyberg, Northern Indiana Citizens Helping Ecosystems Survive (NICHES) Land Trust
Heather Bacher, Central Indiana Land Trust Incorporated (CILTI)
Christian Freitag, Sycamore Land Trust (SLT
Participants maximized the opportunity to learn not only from the outstanding resources available, but also from one another thanks to the resources provided by local fundraising professionals and fellow conservationists in land trust work that have direct environmental fundraising experience..
From the returned session evaluations, the value of this information was clear. Over 97% of participants indicated that they learned something new, and 83% indicated that they will be using the materials and concepts discussed in their watershed management efforts.
“Because water quality improvements aren’t made overnight, the long-term funding implications of watershed restoration can seem daunting,” said Elizabeth Trybula, IASWCD watershed information specialist. “Our goal was to providean approach for grassroots organizations and local Soil and Water Conservation Districts to use for the purpose of securing long-term sustainable funding.”
The full day sessions took place on the following dates/locations:
- North / Tuesday, October 30th, 2007: Salamonie Reservoir, Andrews
- Central / Thursday, November 1st, 2007: Camp Atterbury, Edinburgh
- South / Wednesday, November 7th, 2007: Angel Mounds State Historic Site, Evansville
