"It is important to publicly showcase these men and women and the work they do to protect our soil and water," said Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (IASWCD) President Ray McCormick, a Knox County farmer and past award recipient. "It goes far beyond presenting a certificate to the winners. Each farmer takes great care in protecting our natural resources when they produce a crop or market an animal. That's why we recognize their efforts with this award each year," McCormick added.

Lt. Governor Becky Skillman, Indiana's Secretary of Agriculture and Indiana Farm Bureau President Don Villwock presented certificates and ribbons to the 2011 award winners. Indiana State Conservationist Jane Hardisty, head of the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service also congratulated recipients in her comments at the ceremony.
