Natural Resources Professional Receives IASWCD President's Award
Indianapolis – Jim Lake, a veteran in the Indiana natural resources arena, was honored last week with the 2007 IASWCD President's Award from the Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts. The honor was presented by Association President Jim Droege at the Conservation Awards Banquet held at the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown on January 15.
The President’s Award is given annually to an individual or individuals who have served as important advisors to the IASWCD president during his or her term of office.

As President Droege was making the surprise announcement, he described Lake's years of service to SWCDs as years of great enthusiasm, expert leadership, technical support and demonstrated effectiveness.
"Jim has been instrumental in the success of our District capacity building programs," said Droege. "His roles in both the District Visits Program and the new Leadership Institute for SWCD Supervisors have been critical to their success. That is why I felt it so important to thank him for his service to me as IASWCD President and to Districts," Droege added.
Lake, a Purdue graduate, obtained his degree in agricultural education from the university. His career spans the conservation / natural resources arena. He started with the Allen County SWCD, then moved to the National Association of Conservation Districts. From there, he served as director for the Conservation Technology Information Center. Lake also worked in conservation for Purdue Extension and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. He now serves the North-Northeast region of Indiana as a District Support Specialist for the Indiana State Department of Agriculture's Division of Soil Conservation.
Lake also was recognized at the IASWCD awards banquet for the Harold and Kay Scholl Excellence in Conservation award he received last summer from the Soil and Water Conservation Society’s national conference in Tampa, Florida.
