Holiday Inn Conference Center, Columbus, Indiana
May 6-8, 2009
The Indiana Water Resources Association (IWRA) hosts an annual symposium, which centers around specific water resource topics. The final agenda is available online here, and the early bird room rates are available through April 6th.
NRCS Program Deadline Extensions
Two extensions were announced last week for NRCS program deadlines. The first extension is for the Floodplain Easement Program sign-up, which has been extended two weeks to April 10. Interest and applications for this program has been very high in Indiana, and the extension will provide us ample time to rank and submit applications to headquarters for all interested landowners. Click here for a fact sheet on FEP.
The second extension is for the Agricultural Water Enhancement Program, a component of EQIP. AWEP offers financial and technical assistance to help farmers carry out water enhancement activities that conserve ground and surface water, and improve water quality, on agricultural lands such as cropland, pasture, grassland and rangeland. The deadline for partnership proposals for AWEP has been re-opened to April 1. More information on AWEP can be found at http://www.nrcs.usda.gov/programs/awep/.
The IndianaMap Turns 52
Fifty-two Indiana counties sharing data with the IndianaMap, that is. The IndianaMap is a statewide electronic map used to help manage everything from hiking trails to new business development to highway construction projects. It is especially valuable for emergency response and recovery, showing the National Guard where to sandbag against floodwaters or helping coordinate volunteer fire departments battling a blaze in an unfamiliar county. If you’ve ever zoomed in on your house on Google Maps, you may be surprised to find out you’ve been looking at aerial photography provided to Google from the IndianaMap. The IndianaMap is digital, which means the same information you find on www.indianamap.org is also available to real estate professionals, engineers, demographers, and even school kids. >>Click here for the rest of the story on this great tool.
